This morning on my walk, I spied one of my very favorite sites for this time of year….. daffodils are beginning to peek through the earth, finally! Praise be, y’all spring is on her way!
After a long winter, this season brings a perfect opportunity to breathe new life into your living space. The warmer weather, bright colors, and fresh start make it a great time to refresh your home without spending much time or money. Whether you’re a busy mom juggling family life or a homemaking woman looking to create a cozy yet vibrant space, these simple tips will help you embrace the change of season and make your home feel fresh and inviting, like a calm spring morning.

1. Start with Decluttering for a Truly Fresh Start
Spring is a good time to get rid of unnecessary items that no longer serve a purpose in your home. Nothing says fresh start like decluttering your spaces! If you’ve been around for any length of time, you know I feel pretty passionately about this one. I always feel such a sense of renewal when I’ve done a solid purge on our belongings. Especially after the chaos and influx of things at the holidays with 3 children at home…. it’s such an amazing feeling to lighten your mental load and visual clutter this time of year.

Go through closets, drawers, and cabinets to clear out expired food, broken toys or puzzles with missing pieces, and holiday decorations that have overstayed their welcome. The great way to approach decluttering is by focusing on one room at a time. Donate items you no longer need, and enjoy the feeling of a lighter, more organized home. Don’t fret if you end up with some empty drawers or closet shelves – that unused space is a good thing!
2. Time for a Deep Clean!
Before you dive into decorating and after you’ve gotten rid of the excess, take the time for a thorough deep cleaning. The winter months often leave behind dust, clutter, and random grime from being inside so much (especially if you have kids running around your home) and all of that mess that can make your home feel like a burden instead of a nice place to relax.
Spring is the perfect time to open your windows, let in natural light, and air out your home. If you live in the south like I do, I recommend doing this in the very early spring, as soon as temps hit the 60’s but before “the pollening” begins. If you know, you know.
Tackle your spring cleaning list, focusing on overlooked areas like baseboards, ceiling fans, and window treatments. I like to take a magic eraser to the more heavily trafficked areas of our home such as the stairwell and bathroom walls. Clean those dirty windows inside and out for a fresh view of the soon to be budding trees and spring flowers. This is also the time of year that I’ll typically remove all of my curtains and wash them!

3. Swap Out Heavy Fabrics for Lighter Ones
A simple way to refresh your home for spring is by swapping out heavy drapes and thick blankets for lighter fabrics. I have an assortment of curtains that I’ve collected over the years that I’ll switch out seasonally. Spring and summer call for airier options such as light sheers, or opaque floral printed curtains. Although, I do keep the more heavily lined curtains on any west facing windows as I live in a hotter climate and need to block the hot sun on summer evenings. Replace winter flannel sheets with crisp cotton or linen, and trade out velvet or wool throw blankets for airy, breathable materials. These small changes make a big difference in how your home feels.
4. Add Pops of Spring Color with Throw Pillows and Textiles
Spring is the perfect time to introduce lighter colors into your home decor. One of the easiest ways to do this is by changing out throw pillows, pillow covers, hand towels, and even area rugs. Floral prints, neutral or pastel hues, and lighter colors can instantly give your home an updated look without requiring a complete overhaul. This inexpensive way of refreshing your home makes a huge difference in any living room area or dining room. I’ve linked some of my favorite spring options above!
5. Bring in Natural Elements for a Fresh, Organic Feel
Nature-inspired decor is a great idea for welcoming the spring season. Incorporate olive branches, beautiful vases with a bouquet of fresh flowers, or potted plants to add a touch of greenery. If you donāt have a green thumb, opt for low-maintenance plants like succulents or simply purchase a bouquet of spring blooms from your local grocery store.
I’ve also found a few well designed faux florals to be so well made they can fool anyone who enters my home. Love when I find a good faux floral! Just be sure to avoid anything with oversaturated or super bold colors that are obviously fakes. These look tacky and can make your decor appear very dated and tasteless. A good faux floral will have varied hues throughout the arrangement and deeper greens, just as you would see in nature. I’ve found the Magnolia Home and Studio McGee lines at Target to be pretty solid options in this department but they can be pricey and sell out quickly so just keep this in mind before you shop.

6. Rearrange Your Furniture for a New Perspective
Sometimes, all your living space needs is a little rearranging. Move your couch to the opposite corner, switch up the focal points, or add a coffee table in a new spot. This is the oldest trick in the book to make your home feel refreshed without spending any money!
Pro tip: This does not have to only apply to furniture. You can also rearrange art pieces or even swap curtains or rugs from room to room to create a whole new feel for your space.

7. Update Your Home Decor with Small, Meaningful Touches
You donāt need to buy all new furniture to give your home a fresh look. Consider adding vintage art, a gallery wall, or chalk paint to update existing pieces. Swapping out your light fixtures, adding floor lamps, or replacing kitchen counter accessories can make your space feel brand new without spending a fortune. I love to frequent antique shops and fb marketplace for unique and inexpensive finds.

8. Refresh Your Entryway & Outdoor Spaces
Your front porch and front door set the tone for your home, making them the perfect solution for a quick refresh. A fresh coat of paint on the front door, a new doormat, or adding outdoor furniture can enhance your homeās curb appeal. If you don’t already have a spot for relaxing outside, now’s the perfect time to create that space for yourself and your family! Facebook Marketplace is again a great option for finding inexpensive outdoor furniture, especially vintage wicker or porch swings like you see below. Donāt forget to add a touch of spring decor, like floral pattern accents and a wreath, for a welcoming touch.

9. Infuse Your Home with Signature Scents
Spring is the time of renewal, and nothing enhances the feeling of a fresh start like a clean-smelling home. While you can of course use essential oils, soy candles, or natural diffusers to bring in scents like lavender, citrus, or eucalyptus into your home if needed; my favorite way to freshen up our home for spring and invigorate our spaces with fresh scents is just to open the windows and let the fresh air in. Notice the subtle fragrance of daffodils blooming, or rain on the newly awakening earth. These small touches make your entire room feel clean and inviting.
10. Add a Pop of Color with Paint or Wallpaper
If youāre looking for something a little more permanent to give your home an updated look, consider a fresh coat of paint or peel-and-stick wallpaper. Whether itās an accent wall, a piece of furniture, or even your dining table, a pop of color can breathe new life into your space and make a big impact.
Final Thoughts
Refreshing your home for spring doesnāt have to be overwhelming or expensive. With these simple ways, you can embrace the freshness and subtle changes that come with the spring season and create a space that feels new, inviting, and pleasant to be in. Whether itās spring cleaning, updating window treatments, or adding light pops of color, small changes can make a huge difference!
